Blades of Avernum:

Sifting through my files and I came across my Blades of Avernum folder. Has anyone played the game? If so, has anyone used the editor to create your own world(s) <---> quest(s)?
A long while back I spent a month or two working up my own little world to explore, but I never finished due to the fact that I never quite caught on to the whole "stuff done flag" portion of game creation. Oh, I got what "stuff done flags" were for...I just didn't know how to physically implement them.
Any thoughts?

That was just me thinking ahead to when Eschalon III, or later, comes with an Editor. I am going to have to figure out these stuff done flags, basically, because they no doubt work the same way in Eschalon as they do in Avernum, only the creators of Eschalon most likely call them something else.
Any help is welcome.

I've played some of the created quests but only when I was desparetly bored until Escalon came along.

My son has played quite a number of them and made a list of the good, ie. , well written ones but I lost the list.

Yep, I purchased and played a couple of the games outright, including Blades, but never tried any of the player created scenarios. They were very entertaining games, that is, until I unlocked the editor on a game and boosted my character's stats. That was a big mistake. It turns out that, for me, using the editor took all of the fun out of playing.
They "do," however, have some very extensive written aid for the games...I still hope that Basilisk will one day match the effort, and they "do" have a party based adventuring system in their games..ahem...(cough-cough) Eschalon (cough-cough)...but I really like Eschalon much, much better.

One thing I can say for certain is: Eschalon will only be a single-player solo (non-party) game. I also have no intention of taking this series (using this engine) beyond the 3 games of the original trilogy storyline.
Now, we may use the Eschalon universe in a future series- I do think that a prequel to this storyline would be cool (set 1000 years before
Eschalon), but this would have to be done with a new engine (probably party-based). We also have another game in the works that most long-time visitors have heard us mention- it's sci-fi based and uses a Dungeon Master / Eye of the Beholder style engine. This will be party based. More on this one later in 2009...

I've played a few Blades of Avernum scenarios, but can never seem to find the time to raise a party high enough to get to the ones I want. Some scenarios are designed for starting and low level parties and a few are for custom parties that you get when you start the scenario.

Thank you, BasiliskWrangler, for your feedback. I seriously enjoy Eschalon the way it is, despite my half-witted, slightly misunderstood, humor-inspired imaginings of this, and/or that, making the game, and/or future such games, better. Eschalon reflects hard-core quality, as well as professionalism which can only (and does) reflect well upon it's creators. I count myself fortunate to have been able experience such a rare gem among other such current RPGs of today, which, more often then not, leave players...wanting.
I look forward to the day when Eschalon II is released.
Until that day, be well.

I, for one, second that! I've been unable to find the words to express my gratitude for FINALLY, after ALL THESE YEARS, finding a quality CRPG that is turn based! I think it's completely frustrating for these "real time" games to tease me...there's no way you can beat-to-fit-and-paint-to-match a robust combat system into a he-who-clicks-fastest-wins approach.
Ever since the demise of 3DO and the Might and Magic series (MM-IX doesn't count), there's been a gaping wound in the heart of the RPG player that, until now, has gone unmended. Thank you, Thomas, for finally coming to our rescue.
Ok -- enough of the love-fest...I think I'm making myself sick... LMAO
