Misc. Items?

I just started playing Eschalon. It's... amazing. How did I go since 2007 without finding this game?! To me, it's sort of like the merging of my two favorite RPG subgenres: Action RPGs and roguelikes. Anyway, the point of this topic is, I've found a lot of items with their type labeled "Misc." The first misc items I found were bones and such, so I figured miscellaneous meant useless. Then I found a bar of mithril labeled Misc. Generally speaking, bars of mithril are crafting materials... so are misc items crafting materials? Is there crafting? Or can I just sell them?
I already sold the mithril because it was worth 375 gold, and weighed 15 pounds... I hope that wasn't a bad move.

Actually, you get the same or less cash. It won't ruin your game, so don't worry. You can complete the main quest without doing that side quest (I did the same as you the first time through).

Ah. Quest item. Well, I reloaded and gave it to the blacksmith. Quest complete! Thanks!
Anyway, is there crafting? I found a few jewels and such... seems like it would have one. If it doesn't, I'd probably be happier, though. I hate looking for all sorts of ingredients to go and give to a shopkeeper to make me a sword. Tedious...

There isn't crafting with metal and/or gems. There is alchemy where the reagents and reactants can combine to make potions or improve items. Look around for alchemist cookbooks and torn pages.

Oh good. I dislike crafting with a burning passion.
I already found the alchemy stuff. I didn't actually buy the skill with points, but I found some book that gave me the skill. Pretty useful, actually.
So... thanks!

Try to improve alchemy to 9 then find 2 plus 3 alchemy rings. Then you can buff armor and weapons to +3. Extoplasm+mercury = +3 to hit, extoplasm +spiderweb = +3 armor, extoplasm+serpent venom=+3 damage.

You might want to hold off upgrading Alchemy until you reach Bordertown there you can pay for up to level 5 alchemy. Skill points are more valuable than gold after all.
Though in the end it doesn't really matter, but getting alchemy to level 9 is a good idea.
It's crazy how much imbued equipment helps.
