Easy exploit

So I've been playing through Book I again since I got tired of waiting for the new one and I remembered a little exploit that makes the game much, much easier to play.
Basically, the longer you rest the more likely you are to be awakened by a fight, yes? So why bother resting for long periods of time? Why not just go "C, R, *pause, *click, repeat" and sleep in bursts of an hour or so? Being as I am playing as a pure mage with no armor or weapon skills this time I have been doing this A LOT. Especially since potions are expensive and, until level 3, mostly useless.
The way to avoid this unrealistic rule-bending, it seems to me, is a simple algorithm wherein the amount you heal while resting increases the longer you rest - much like the random encounter chance. This would not totally remove the exploit, but it would at least give a reason to rest in large chunks - particularly because resting for longer periods of time for the same effect would place a severe drain on your rations.
Anyway, I realize you're very near the release of Book II, BW, but I thought I'd mention it anyway. I've been lurking around here for a couple years and figured I'd finally make a useful contribution since I don't recall ever seeing it mentioned. It may be too late to act on it, but it seems like a simple fix to me, and if not, keep it in mind for Book III.
