Underworld

So I got to thinking...and one of the cool things I really liked about Ultima's was the underworld that existed in that game. It was like a whole other map below the surface which made for some interesting things.

It would be neat for Eschalon to explore this idea...maybe having sunken cities and other things(lost expeditions etc).

I'm not really thinking of an underworld in the Style of Avernum or such...more like one that can be accessed all over the world map.

I know this is waaaay to late for book 2 but it got me thinking.

There a few below ground places but nothing as extensive as Avernum. The best was the catacombs leading into Crakamir.

Yes I knew about that...but was thinking a more extensive lost civilization, abandoned places....it could add an interesting sub plot.

Heck ya I would love that in Book III.

Loved that in Ultima.

Something like the Deep Roads of Dragon Age Origins will be very cool.

By now is too late to put this idea in Book II, maybe in the third game.

For old folks like me who date back to the NES and the Sega Master System, I am reminded of Dragon Warrior/Quest III which had, or rather has (I have the game upon both the NES, and upon my GBA) an extensive overworld to explore, as well as an almost equally extensive underworld, each complete with castles, towns, dungeons and the like.

Yep, underworlds are a good thing.
