When a character has the axiom atheist, does he still have the ability to cast devine spells?
Does atheist axiom has drawbacks regarding arcane divination?

Code: Select all

Atheist
Benefit: Immune to Curses
Drawback: Immune to Blessings. NPC Clerics cannot heal you.

It essentially means what is stated in that code box there.

Curses will have no effect on you (very handy against a particular kind of foe) but conversely the quite useful bless spell will be useless to you. Keep in mind that you can still learn the bless spell even with an atheist character, but it will have no effect so in that case the scroll is best not bought, or sold if you happened to find it laying around somewhere.

NPC Clerics cannot heal you in this case, but I believe they can still take your money if you ask them to heal you.

Oh, that's a pity!
The bless spell is very handy, isn't it?

So, I'd better look for high wisdom, so I don't get cursed, rather than being atheist.
And for the occurrence of a curse, I'd better look for a spell, that removes any curse.

There is a spell which removes Curses from you:

Or you can train up in alchemy and use potions to substitute for most priest spells.

These things are all a matter of preference, of course. If I am building an Iron Man type of character, I will be an atheist on the theory that being cursed is worse than the offset that using Bless provides.

Being cursed is pretty bad and as far as I know there are only two methods of removal, the dehex spell (must be cast at a relatively high casting level) and having the curse removed by a priest.

This becomes a major problem for those choosing the Nefarious axiom, because they cannot be healed by priests, their only option for removing a curse is casting the dehex spell (successfully).

My suggestion for nefarious characters who do not have of plan to have a high(ish) divination skill: Do not, under any circumstances, hug a ghost. For you ghosts officially have cooties.

Alternatively there's always the cheap method of reloading a previous save...

The problem comes when you get cursed in the middle of a hallway and your strength drops so low you're suddenly overburdened (if you're carrying heavy equipment). In that case, your only choice would be to reload a previous saved game if you don't want to throw away your hard earned weapon or armor piece.

You can learn the Portal spell and set an anchor point inside a magic shop or church to solve this problem at the expense of some Mana Points.

Just another reason to be rather... unfond of Father Michael.
