I am running ubuntu 8.10 with pulseaudio and wine 1.1.42

When i run form the console, I get

william@attigliano:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Eschalon Book II$ wine book_2.exe
fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0xb1f6c8,0x00000000), stub!
fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0xb1f754,0x00000000), stub!
fixme:d3d:swapchain_init Add OpenGL context recreation support to context_validate_onscreen_formats

and a windows dialog that reads in capital letter EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION.

No files are created (a config file for example) even after changing permission to 777 in the Book 2 folder.

googling some ideas for the moment...

Results are : I have a DirectX issue on my Ubuntu 64bits version. Could not solve it. Therefore turn back to my old 32bits desktop server... Eschalon runs just perfectly !!!! With sounds (quite lovely), Fullscreen, Millions of color !!!

THANKS A LOT. I WAS WAITING FOR THIS MOMENT FOR YEARS !!!!

Ah, interesting, good to know. I'm actually on a 32-bit system myself, though, and I get the EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION thing. Edit: doy, I see above that you're on 1.1.42.

(and of course, it's sort of a moot point since there'll be a native Loonix client soon enough, but still.)

william@Paris:~$ wine --version
wine-1.0

this is a very very old version... but I can run Wow on this setup and Book II runs perfectly with it....

Anyone with Arch linux should use Wine stable from AUR repo:

yaourt -S bin32-wine-stable

It's version 1.0-1 too. Latest bin32-wine gives the error written above.

So far works flawlessly with Ati Catalyst 10.4.

same here with wine-1.1.44. seems I'll have to wait for the native binary. just hope that the registration key will work on it:)

Indeed it works under wine 1.0.1 on debian as well. I feel dirty for downloading the windows demo though.

Another comment:
I guess it has been brought up before, but a 1024x600 resolution would be nice for all the people with netbooks. I got it to work by using the hack 1024x768 emulation available through the newer intel driver, i hope this will work as well with the native version.
