Is my character supposed to be... sliding along, no walking animation, and not even facing the direction he's moving?

Doesn't feel right at all...

Reboot your computer.

This is a problem caused when a computer is left on too long- the system timer "rolls over" and causes the walking animation (which is linked to the timer) to become frozen.

Ah! OK, that makes sense. I often go months between reboots...
