Where do I find Saved Game locations?
At the main menu (where you see the skull in the desert) click on the text line at the bottom of the screen where it says "Copyright 2010 Basilisk Games...". This will tell you where your Saved Games are located.

How do I upgrade to a new version of the game?
Book II will never have "patches" - instead, each new version is the entire game. You'll need to start by uninstalling the current game. On Windows, this is done through the Add/Remove Programs function or clicking the Uninstall icon in the Start Menu. On Macintosh and Linux, just drag the application folder to the trash. Your saved games will not be deleted!

Now you can install the new game. Your saved games from previous plays will work with the new version.

Most likely it's easier to just recompile the whole game than to worry about changing bits and pieces. It's not like the game is particularly large.

I hope this isn't a silly question, but can I ask why?

Actually, a patch for Windows is a fairly easy, automated process.

The real reason is because we maintain several different versions of the game. While the Windows version is easy to patch, it's a bit harder to make patches for Mac and even more difficult to patch Linux programs. Furthermore, with services like Impulse and Direct2Drive carrying their own versions, it would be destructive to their copy (which is often wrapped in their own control code) if someone tried to apply a patch to it.

It is because there are so many versions of the game that it becomes easier for us to maintain a single, "latest" version on each platform instead of numerous accumulative patches.

I don't believe so, no. Linux and Mac OS X users can replace the save game folder with a symbolic link to a different location, though. In theory Windows NTFS support symbolic links, too, but that's not really something they encourage you to play around with.
