The spells Elemental Armor, Haste, and Stoneskin can really help. And remember, that if you make it out you can quick travel as soon as you reach the "outside".

If you don't need them too badly, take your boots and your pants off for the trek up there. I just made it through there and I think it was well worth it. Lots of unidentifiable goodies.
