Placing powder kegs is driving me nuts

I keep trying and trying but no matter how much I try I never manage to get a powder keg in the right place.
There are even some places where I absolutely know I can blow up some part to get to another part etc. But I tried for 5 minutes to place the powder keg... the character kept dropping it in the wrong place! What am I doing wrong?

The powder keg is placed in the square immediately in front of you. Make sure you are facing the square you want the powder keg in.

oo, maybe I missed it in the manual but.... How can I turn without moving?

The only way I know of to turn without leaving your square is to attack in the direction you want to face.

I'm a PC, and direction changing in EB:2 was my idea.

Good to know. Is it documented somewhere? I don't recall seeing any reference to this feature.

Book II Manual wrote:• Picking up powder kegs •
Powder kegs can be picked up and placed in your inventory as well. Simply walk up next to it and left-click. Right-click on the powder keg icon in your inventory to drop the keg in the space directly in front of your character. To better control where your character drops a powder keg, hold down Left Shift while clicking the mouse in a specific direction. Your character will turn that direction without walking– this allows you to drop the keg right where you want.
