I can attest to the fact that the rat meat is indeed safe to eat... albeit a bit stringy.

...And: were they thoroughly cooked at the moment of mastication and consumption?

Well to answer your questions: I lost count, I like Chinese food, and yes thoroughly cooked.

Do you eat them alongside other things, and/or in sandwich or wrap or pita pocket form, or just the rat all by its lonesome, cooked over an open fire?
Do you have a preferred beverage that you like to share the rat with? Soda, juice, iced tea, coffee or beer?

On a stick with a side of rice and veggies, and tea, preferably Oolong or Earl Grey.
