Under Elderhollow

Just started playing and am enjoying immensely but quick question. I've found my way under Elderhollow and made my way all the way through until I get to a closed portcullis just past the dead thief that I can't seem to open. Is there a pressure plate I'm supposed to find or is there another way around to it? Thanks!
