I Think I Might Have Some Issues With 'Parry'...

...In that I think Parry mode may be too powerful.

But I got my Fighter up to Level 32 Swords (which could easily be upped to Level 34 or 36 with magical weapons or armor). And, in Parry mode, that all gets added to your Armor rating, which in my character's case was already AR=30+ without Parry.

So, I go into Parry mode, and my Armor Rating on my Fighter was a ridiculously high AR=70+!

With AR=70+, virtually everything, every mob, gets knocked down to a ToHit=1%. Basically, I wasn't getting hit.

The only exception to that was Taurax Legionnaires (ToHit=4-8%) and Taurax Spearmasters (who did the best of all, still having a ToHit=8-12%, depending...).

Now, I think there are a couple of options to "balance" Parry:
  1. Go back to Book I's numbers: make the minimum ToHit=2% (1 in 50) vs. Book II's minimum ToHit=1% (1 in 100). (And, similarly, I'd prefer to go back to Book I's ToHit=98% maximum, rather than Book II's ToHit=99% maximum).

    And/or,
  2. Modify Parry so that it's (1/2*Weapons Skill) getting added to your Armor Rating, rather than (1*Weapons Skill) getting added to your AR.
I'm sure that this is one of those topics where opinions may vary.

But all I can tell you is I was shocked at how much of a 'cake walk' this game became for my Fighter when I started using 'Parry' regularly: most melee fights, even against up to 8 mobs at the same time, started to become a breeze!

Perhaps there should be a maximum number of parries per round as well.

That's good too, though I'd be sad to lose my ability to fend off an entire horde! :( ;)

I don't know if it's so much that parry is too powerful, or that other skills should be capped. 32 swords is crazy high :)

Once you get a combat skill over 30 you get really strange things happening. Adding parry to decent armor reduces you chance of a weapon hit to almost nothing, but you are still vulnerable to magical attacks.

You can't use parry while stunned so it isn't all powerful.
