How on earth do I get rid of the barrels on route to Edon? Is there another route and if so what is it? Thanks for any help.

They're pretty flimsy, if I remember properly: bashing on them (with shift-click), or any ranged attack (also shift-click?), or some offensive spells (I don't remember if all of them can be targetted at barrels) should do the trick.

If you've got a lot of Demon Oil I left in your inventory you'd like to get rid of, that'd work too.

And don't forget to look inside the barrels when you're done destroying them.

Thanks for the replies. Shift click is new to me but I will try it.

It's best if you have spells or unarmed combat, as using ranged weapons runs you out of ammo pretty fast, and normal weapons wear quickly bashing objects (big hammers work best among weapons, though). If you have 1 level of unarmed combat (from reading the Brawling book or wearing one of the rings), you can beat the barrels into submission without any trouble (though it can take some time).

You might also want to go through some of the earlier areas and see what you've missed if you haven't been using shift-click to blow up exploding barrels in fun and useful locations, or bashing open the sealed barrels elsewhere.

I seem to remember being able to squeeze past them on the eastern edge. Maybe that was Beta version??

And of course you only need to bash/fire dart one of them to get by too. By the time I get there I don't have much call for cash so I seldom bother with breaking all of them open.
