Hi all,

I recently bought Eschalon Book 2 and so far I am really enjoying it. It's a bit of a switch for me as I usually only play action RPGs in the vein of Diablo. One of the reasons I like action RPGs (other than the gameplay) is it is one of the few genres that still mostly employs the top-down point and click view, which I enjoy.

My question is, are there still any companies that make RPGs similar to Eschalon Book 2, but with the top-down point and click view? Or do you pretty much have to go to gog.com for that?

The other really good provider of isometric RPGs would be Spiderweb Games, though their graphics aren't as polished as in the Eschalon games the amount of content is huge.

yeah you got that right saxon because whenever i play a game my main focus will be on the graphics and whenever i play a game of spiderweb i quit after an hour or two.

You will miss out on some great games if you quit for low graphics. There was a time when games didn't even have graphics...

Neverwinter Nights might be up your alley. It's completely 3D but does incorporate the whole "top down point and click" thing

If you don't mind completely turn based combat Temple of Elemental Evil is about as good as it gets.

There is another game called Inquisitor that was released in Poland but should make it's way to our shores soon. Looks VERY promising.

You might wanna try Divine Divinity and Beyond Divinity (not as good as the first one), which are basically Diablo with with some real story elements

They just got re-released with new graphics.

That does look pretty sweet, thanks for the heads up.

I second that: thanks, Renevent. Inquisitor looks interesting. Hope it comes out in English, soon. (And a demo would be cool, too.)

...Warning on ToEE, though, if you're not familiar with it: This is a pretty hard-core game. We're talking weak characters with foes of equal strength, weak spells (and few in number, at least at the beginning (not sure about later on) and inexplicably you forget your spell once you cast it, in accordance with those ludicrous, un-fun D&D rules), and crawling back home a bloody mess after every battle . . . at least so far as I've gotten until I moved on to other games (which is not very far at all . . . but I'll return to it; despite the above, I like the game).
