Noximanders... How to get rid of them?

Hi,
I would first like to say, that I bought this game and love it so far.
I find it a little on the hard side to begin. It is not very forgiving, if you don't have let's say Light Armor in your skills, you are pretty much screwed, you have to wait until you get to level 2, I guess.
Those Noximanders, the poison you pretty fast, the hit hard and then if you have only one bottle of anti-poison (don't remember the name), you are dead.
If you are poisoned, what options do you have? I have no Spells, how do I get spells? I have Elemental 1 skill so far.

If you don't start out as a caster type, you'll need to buy spell scrolls at the magick shop to learn any.
I also had only one detox potion when I fought Noximanders...just kept myself alive with heal potions during combat, then used detox when it was all over. Still nearly died, but I softened them up with ranged attacks first, then resorted to some underhanded tactics to finish off the second one, since the outcome was a bit in doubt. They are pretty tough.

Use gates to your advantage. Lure the beasties onto on open gateway and pull the switch. Instant smushed beastie and you still get xp. No need to wait for level 2 to try this.

Nice tip! Will definately try it!
Thanks Greyloch, I will go back to town and buy some spells.
How can you shoot ranged (bow) when there is no light around? I cannot, obviously, hold a torch while shooting with my bow.

Also, poison is temporary. If you just hold down the space bar, you'll lose somewhere between 10-20 hit points total before your body finally throws it off naturally. Unless you're almost dead already, 1 healing potion should get you through it.

You can also get "fatally poisoned"... that's the game's way of telling you that resting and healing isn't enough, the amount of damage you'll take is greater than your hit points.
Yes, I figured out the gate trick early on... very damn useful. I'm finding that as a mage, I usually end up having to rest a LOT since mana potions aren't cheap and the reagents actually cost more than the potions themselves, so it's not worth buying them, but better to find them in the wilds.

By "finding in the wilds" do you mean in containers in the woods? I haven't seen any ingredients in their natural state yet...

Yep, containers in the woods. Actually, I haven't found many since leaving Elderhollow. Maybe the Tangle forest will be more lucrative...

Adamantyr,
Spoiler below in white text:
Once you get your Alch skill up you will find that the cost of reagents is less than the value of the higher rank potion you can mix.

I bought a 'haste' potion which makes noximanders a snip - you can hit them, and then step back. Repeat until done. Now you just need to catch the shop with a potion in.
If close to a town

If you are in trouble and being following you you can run to a town and have the guard take most of the blows. If you time it right you can step in and deliver the coup de grace and get the xp. You can also use the same tactic with the thugs on the Salted Coast. Run the creature into a creature that has not spotted you and they will start to fight. You will not get xp but it could save you life.

How do I make healing potions at lvl. 2? I have the lvl. 1 recipe and tried using a lvl. 1 healing potion and then mixing the reactant and reagent for a higher healing potion but got an explosion! Is there a different recipe, or do I just need more skill?
Thanks

Effectiveness of Alchemy is based on Alchemy skill. You always mix into an empty flask (AFAIK) ~ you can't "upgrade" existing potions. The only time when this is not true is when you're imbuing weapons and armor.
