Sound changes take no effect on win xp

Hi and my best regards to Basilisk Games.
I love the game but i have the following problem :
The ingame sound was too high for me , so i decided to wind it down in the options , first from 60 to 30 then to 10 % but it wont change. Even when i change it to 0 % it wont stop playing.
And when i am in longer fights, the sound starts rising , rising and rising till i really have to turn the volume down.
Does anyone else have that problem im a running it under win xp not under vista.
