"Error saving game" & saves disappeared !

Hi

After two days playing without any problem, I suddenly, for no noticeable reason, get an "Error saving game" message when pressing F2. Moreover, on the loading screen, the list is blank where previously I had 5 or 6 saves.

I can still load some of the saves when clicking on the empty slots where the saves used to be, others crash to desktop, and saving using the "save" option still works, but new saves don't appear either.

Has anybody had the same problem ? Any idea ?

For information : I'm on Vista x64, no previous bugs and the files are still in the "Documents" folder.

PS : really love the game (even if walking is just too slow)

The Quick Save slot is corrupt.

Go into your Saved Games directory and delete the contents of the "slot1" folder (make sure the folder itself stays).

Let me know if that fixes it.

I've had the same problem running Vista Ultimate 64bit. See the actual error message posted in another thread.

Thank you for the quick answer, BasiliskWrangler ! In fact, the "slot1" folder wasn't there anymore, recreated it and everything is fine.

To shaf : sorry but I couldn't find any other thread about this problem. Maybe there should be a sticky with common problems and their solutions ?

It did happen to me again a few times, and not only on the quicksave slot. What seems to happen is that on rare occasions, the save folder containing the save you are trying to make gets deleted somehow.

Maybe the game makes the save in a temporary folder, deletes the old folder and moves the temp folder which, for some reason, it can't do (that would explain the missing folder) ? Vista apparently has some asynchronous way to copy files, so I thought it could be that, but since it also happened on XP...
