Holding down the spacebar - exploit?

I'm not sure if it was intended to work this way, but I see it as a cheap way of regenerating HP and mana, and it can become the source of other possible exploits. Especially that it works in places where you aren't allowed to rest, while it basically works the same way as resting. I rarely set down the tent even when outdoors. You can also do this after every fight, or to fill up your mana to full several times when trying to break something with a spell.
Also, the game can't seem to be able to keep up with the speed you're skipping time at. You can skip dozens of turns every second at an insane rate, even the chat area gets bugged, while the game only animates 4 or 5 turns/moves on the NPC's part, because it has to wait for its movement animation to finish, and reach the next square before it can move the creature again.
Possible fix?: holding down space should only skip one turn, you would have to press it repeatedly to skip more, but this way you could still skip time faster than it would take a creature to finish animating a single turn. An even more drastic way I could think of is to give it a "cooldown" time, which would equal the time it takes for your character to move 1 square. I prefer the latter, it would be a lot more fair, making it fully the "standing still" variant of one step.
I hope you guys understand what I mean, any thoughts on this?

good point with the "cooldown" timer idea.
