I am curious about the reason for the final treasure/loot in Talushorn - i do not see any reason for it -- could someone enlighten me?

The only reason I can see is to increase wealth for final score and help get one more achievement if you are a little low.

They have a treasure like this at the end of Book I as well, though with that treasure you can still go back and buy stuff from stores. Not that in any of my playthroughs there were any store owners left alive by that point...

To OP: Yeah - mostly that treasure is simply for helping you get the 'wealthy lord' achievement. I can't really think of any other use for that.
