What items should I place in these four chests?
I've tried almost everything which in my opinion answers the riddles but with no success...

i think you need items that have the label special, i've found an acorn which i'm guessing is for the womb of a tree chest, i also found a locket but i don't think it belongs in the chests, both of those items are labelled as special.

I don't think I need special items for these riddles. Acorn and locket are quest items and they are needed for another quests. You'll give them to NPC's.

hmmm i'm not sure then, did you make sure you stepped on the pressure plate in the middle of the room after you put the items in the chest?? i'm not sure what items go where, i'm guessing an endless ribbon of metal is a ring, and consumed by fire must be wood of some sort, and i forget the other one its bashing your way to victory or something, so i'm guessing thats a bludgeoning weapon, but what would womb for a tree be?? a flower pot? or soil?

Yes, I've stepped on this pressure plate.

The items were:

1. Ring
2. Axe or Hammer or Demon Oil
3. Charcoal
4. Apple.

Nothing happens.

Also I've tried some other combinations but they seem to be totally incorrect.

I tried this too, but with other items. All in all I was very near...

i got the 4 items one in each appropriate chest - ring, axe, ash and apple - stepped on the square and a click. nothing else happened that i noticed.

was that double grate off to the east/right of the square chest room supposed to open?

Axes don't crush. Try a bludgeoning weapon. I didn't finish this one, but its a thought. I got everything but the apple (!) but then moved on.

yeah i had a cleaving axe and not a crushing axe. D'oh.

then all that effort for almost nothing.

Does anybody know where can I find some ash? No store has it...

You can look in crypts or cemetaries.

At all, what is the right answer?

I try:
1. Copper Ring
2. Stone Hammer
3. Ash
4. Apple
And step on the plate.
But nothing happens

Try swapping the stone hammer for a club or something, just in case it is miscoded as a cleaving weapon.
