Is there any way (in book I) to stop angry shopkeeper?

I know in book II there is a charm potion, but is there an equivalent in book I?
I need to turn in a quest, but the shopkeeper keeps fighting me.
Also, my last save before the shopkeeper was mad was from quite a while ago, so that isn't an option.

In Book I, there is only the spell Charm. Not the potion.

Where might I find this spell? And is this the only option to stop the shopkeeper from fighting me?

You can usually find it in one of the shops in Blackwater. You'll need enough Divination skill to cast it. I believe it's a second tier spell. It's been a LONG time since I've played through Book I, though. I know of no other way to get a shopkeeper to stop being mad at you in Book I.

You can always kill him. That would be my solution, though I suppose it might not actually help in your situation. You can always reload the region data (Fine and delete the region in your Book I folder, and when you walk in it will have reset). What town is this shopkeeper in?

Or use xolotl's editor. I don't know if you can change the attitude of NPCs, but you can certainly temporarily give your character the Charm spell and enough wisdom/divination skill to use it.

You can change the attitude of NPCs (even make enemies friendly, I suppose) and I recommend that you do that instead of tampering with the character files. Also giving spellscrolls to characters with the editor causes Eschalon to crash if you try using those scrolls.

Where do I get this editor? And does it run on a mac?

I believe there is a Mac version of the editor, or that it runs on Mac, not sure.

Heh - finally, another Mac user!

Xolotl's editor can be found here. Use it at your own risk and don't leave it running when you play Eschalon, otherwise it will corrupt your savefiles (but not permanently, though, and you can still save in another savefolder).

Not all mistakes can be solved. And angering Blackwater shopkeepers is not a good idea if you plan on selling any endgame loot.

EDIT: Oh yeah, Senior Council Member right here!

I had no idea! Two of the most helpful people on the forums, using beautiful machines...

Anyway - I still think killing the shopkeeper is the best way to go, that solves quite a few problems...

Killing off shopkeepers is fine if you have no need for them. But when you come back with a lot of loot to sell and you max out at one or two stores that buy them, it's good to have a third choice. :) And, of course, if you need to finish a quest, then there has to be another way..even if it takes a looong time to do so by beefing up Divination to use the 'Charm' spell on shopkeeper (book I) :)
