I acquired 3 sets but can't find a use for them (if I try to sell them the shop says I'll need the for the quest or something, but I assume they are confused about that?)

I've seen it once in the shop, so I guess it's not a quest item actually.

I guess it may just be the standard shop response to anything with zero value?

Maybe they're what you wind up with when a barrel with a weapon in is too close to an exploding powder barrel??

Maybe it's just junk an NCP threw away... It's a large immersive world, surely there would be a few items that don't have any purpose, right? Items that are just leftovers, that are just there to make it look as if the place had a history?

One chest in Vela seems to always give Weapon Fragments - makes me think they were, in fact, part of a cut feature or quest.

I purchased some weapon fragments from a vendor for 0 gp.

So where's the program author when you need an obscure spoiler??

I can't imagine they're a quest item if you can buy them. Maybe there is some way to put them back together .. but I didn't find a working forge yet.

There is a room in a dungeon where you have to solve a puzzle involving four chests. Above one of the chests, the inscription reads 'a smashing victory' which I think may be a use for these things. However, I couldn't work out the other clues, and didn't have all the items on me so I left it at that. Anyone else know the room I mean and whether this is a legitimate use for weapon fragments?

Nope, I know what goes in that chest and it isn't those (although they may work as well - I didn't try them). You really should open that door though .. well worth dying for. 8>.
