Cleared dungeon

In the demo, the first dungeon with the mithril bar has not been looted.
However, in the full game that I started the dungeon has been cleared already.
Please tell me that this is by design and I am not shut out of the XP.
If not by design, how do I get the map to reset?

i'll let the expert explain but basically it sounds like you started over with the same save games as your cleared demo map.
should have deleted the demo slotx saved files.
one way to get a fresh map is to move to another map location if you in southern parish ie aridell town, go to the north parish or east salt coast area and save. exit game, then delete the 35*.files (the info for the south parish map section) from the slotx folders.
any mapping you had done will also be deleted and have to be reaccomplished.
BUT as i suggest this is drastic measure and wait for the professionals to answer.

From what Basilisk said before there was a change to the save game file structure between the demo and 1.0.2 and that continuing save games between them was no longer recommended, this might be the source of the problem.
As a workaround, save your game outside the cellar then close Eschalon. go to the save games in the documents folder, open the save game outside of the cellar and delete (make sure to back them up first) these 3 files 35_cellar.ent 35_cellar.map 35_cellar.opq this should reset the map (the cellar) when you next enter it.
EDIT: Agnari, if you delete all the #35 files you will wipe the upstairs as well, thats pointless(and as it's the starting area, possibly dangerous).

paperpusher: This seems to be related to saving over existing games.
I recommend always taking the extra step to delete old saves first before saving into the slot. I am looking into this problem now.

Can I assume you can safely delete the "Eschalon Book I Save Games" folder in My Documents, and the game will re-create that directory when you load it up?

Yea, I would lose everything, but I am wanting to start over from scratch and try a mage, and figured that was the best way to do it.
Thanks.

thanks for the suggestions

I’ll give those fixes a try when i get home.
I want to keep the new character is started over with since I rolled some ungodly high starting stats with my ranger.
