Classes - HP and Mana?

Ok, so it seems that if you choose Mage or Cleric, you will get more Mana based on your castings tat (Int or Wis) is that true?

And fighters, rangers and rogues don't get the bonus mana even if they increase int or wis?

Do all classes increase HP and Mana per level the same or is there a difference?

Thanks,
Michi

I haven't really paid attention but it'd be real easy to figure out for yourself. Create 1 character of each class with exactly the same stats for Endurance and Perception on each. Run around until you level. This can happen in just a few minutes if you know what you're doing. Compare :)

Book I's HP an MP leveling chart:

+1 HP for every 5 points of END
+1 HP for every 10 points of STR

+1 MP for every 5 points of PER
+1 MP for every 10 points of INT (This is WIS for Healers)

After your HP and MP level gains are calculated, we then "class balance" that:
Magick Users and Healers get an additional +1 MP bonus and -1 HP penalty. The other three classes get +1 HP bonus and -1 MP penalty.

The class balancing was done to ensure that each class got enough of the HP/MP that they required. It also reflects the focus of each class, assuming that casters are going to be honing their magickal abilities throughout the game, while the others would generally be working on toughening themselves up.

The in-game documentation references healers getting bonus mana based on WIS - perhaps this should be changed based on the above (provided its a trivial fix)? [edit - I.e. the documentation should be changed, not the mechanics]

Oops, you're right. The game is correct, the documentation is wrong. I'll change the chart above...

I'm a bit confused. I just started a healer character, with Int 14, Wis 15 and Per 25. I was expecting 65 mana at level 1, but the game started me at 64. This ties into your chart above.

Is this correct, or should healers start with 2xPerception + 1xWisdom mana points? I.e. in the character I just created, should he have 65 mana, not 64?

Now that is technically a bug. The starting HP/MP for all characters is:

HP = ENDURANCE * 2 + STRENGTH
MP = PERCEPTION * 2 + INTELLIGENCE

So you are right, the game is not checking Wisdom for Healers when your character is created, only during level ups. Fixed in 1.04.
