the orakur?

I am curious about something. As a huge fan of both Eschalon and Avernum I can't help but notice that the Orakur and the Vahnatai seem almost identical. Is this intentional? Is this just coincidence? I have no idea.
Both the Orakur and the Vahnatai have very similar body styles, though the orakur dress differently. Both of them are very advanced in their understanding of magic. Both of them are a mysterious race that comes from underground (though its questionable rather the Orakur actually do come from the underground, it is told in the games that this is where they are from).
So, what do you think? Anyone else who's played both series have any opinions?
