Store items in chest

I looked through and searched but couldn't find any information on using a chest to store items. If you do this, will items stay or get deleted after a period of time?

Thanks for any help!

Well, sometimes the cleaning lady comes past and... err, no, you can safely store stuff in there.

Also lootbags are safe and can be used in the same way.

What is not safe, somewhat related to this, is trapping a hostile creature behind a fence or powderkeg or something. I've done that a couple of times, left the map, came back and saw the creature was free again.
I think NPC's will have a starting point where they'll automatically return to.

Be careful, NPCs will consider you taking items out of chests as a crime, even though you just put them in there.

If you clear out the grumpy dwarf on first level of Rockhammer mine with one of the appropriately placed powder kegs (+3-5 whacks), you get a nice secluded two room apartment, with 4 chests + 1 vase, nearby TNT storing department, dining hall for your parties and guest quarters just down the hall.

Edit: Of course, you should finish his quest first. And I hope he only gives one quest...

Sounds like a plan, and you could even fire up the editor and drop in a nice teleport pad for quick comings and goings
