In the Wizardtorium, we are forced to choose among various gates and switches and once we decide between treasure and self-improvement, the other gates for the other choice are closed to us. Is there any way to break down these gates and get everything?

You can duplicate some of the effects with sufficient powder kegs.

I could never get the kegs to work. seems like the first one trips whichever lever is closest and not the others.

It won't actually allow you into the other rooms, but you can use it to flip as many switches as you can fit on your screen.
