There is a pass in the Mountains that contains a shaft at your feet and an arrow target at a distance. Is this just an interesting place or can that shaft be covered or raised so that one can go through?

Oddly, although I keep attempting to this, my Spark spell just causes wood to fly but nothing is destroyed, and my attempt to use a bow and arrow results in numerous "You are too far away" messages. I can't get any closer because of the shaft, so this is a mystery to me.

A spell certainly doesn't work, think it pretty much has to be bow and arrow, although I haven't actually tried any throwing weapons.

If I recall you will need to be shift+right clicking the same way you do to attack friendly characters or chests / barrels.

I can confirm that thrown weapons are out of range.

I think it depends on how strong your character is. I managed to hit it with a flask of Demon Oil. (It was a melee character. I didn't have a bow handy)
