You don't have to spend any skill points. After you buy 8 ranks, you can get two more from a book and wear two +2 foraging rings every time you camp. That's plenty.

I'm sending a level 14 mage/healer and I should have a pure healer later this weekend after I finish killing the boreheads and Sparrow.

Im having a 14 mage/healer too atm and can send it if there isnt enough.

Boreheads? I killed them all before taking on this quest and the dude in that church ...

It's a question of casting level - you may be able to cast Abyssal Freeze, but you may not be able to cast it at Level 6. That's where the really-high Elemental skill helps.

I believe KM means the "highest level" of Elemental needed to cast Lock Melt at Level 6.

IIRC, Lock Melt is a 'Tier 2' spell - you need Level 5 ...

Hmm seems that i was right about the sneaky lock-picky, damn, must do something about my skills, does any of you guys know about some good magic shops past ravens gate? (i dont see any in Durnore). Need to raise my magics to learn the awesome spells first

I chose the right path and being on the "good side", so far so good level 12 and i think im only in the first 1/2 of the game, spending 18 hours on, making true mage too and its a little bit of hell enduring with mana

anyway, how much time you got to end this game for the first time?
