Re: How about this for Book III?

After Titan's Quest, Sacred 1/2 and all the iterations of Fate (and Torchlight) ... I am completely cooked on Diablo gameplay. So, they can do whatever they want.

Re: The Bard's Tale II

Thanks for the thread. I was only 12 when BTII came out and that game KICKED MY BUTT. It seemed like you could take one wrong turn and be way over your head against monsters that could wipe your entire party. I also remember there being many riddles in that game. If you got them wrong you took ...

Very good game. Compelling story that keeps you going.

I remember quitting towards the end as I had to do a series of "fetch quests" one after the other and made me lose my will to finish the game.

You should really look into the mods for BGII. Whatever problem you may have with the game, was probably tweaked by someone else.

I take it activating the lighthouse allows you take the boat (assuming it was working)?

This game breaks my heart. Because it's the penultimate in turn-based combat engines. It's like the spiritual sequel of the Gold Box games ... but without all the annoying random combat.

But, ugh the storyline. I realize they were confined to what the module gave them .. but there was SO MUCH more ...

I had the same problem you did at this point. I was very lucky to find a 7 attack sword w/ +3 enchantment on it in the Store. I believe it was about 3000 GP.

You might want to think about doing that trick where you QUICKSAVE before you talk to a shopkeeper and then keep reloading until you get ...

I'm towards the end game, and a shopkeeper just sold me a pair of Admintine boots with +3 armor. 2800gp

Interesting .. I'll do some testing and see if that is true.

Are some resting spots "safer" than others?

It doesn't seem to be, but one of my favorite things about the old Gold Box games was that there were spots that were designated as "safe spots" for you to rest. I was wondering if (or possibly for Book 2) this were true for Eschalon?

I would think an added benefit to clearing out a campsite of ...

In reference to the OP (no easy quote for me to grab), is your primary complaint that systems haven't progressed or that settings lack creativity (e.g. 'medieval fantasy' still dominates the market)?

The settings. Medieval fantasy has completely swamped the genre and if you do have an alternate ...

Alternate settings for RPG's(or): PC RPG devs have failed us

Backstory:

1997-2000 was a glory era for PC gaming, I was right there playing all the latest games and loving the selection that we had. As that old computer became obsolete, my life became more hectic. Gone were the lazy Saturdays of playing an RPG until my butt got numb. In 2000, I quit playing ...
