Try buying some from one of the shopkeepers in Aridell, Bordertown or Blackwater. I'm willing to bet that at least one of the 5 or 6 that would sell it will have it.
Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

I've visited every shopkeeper. No joy. I've also spent about an hour reloading the coffins under the cryptkeeper's house, since I never ransacked his basement. Still nothing.

This is not putting me in a good mood.

Are the chests necessary to get through the ossuary? I know that sometimes I miss passageways in the dark and this might be just an easter egg or something in which case I'm quite happy to skip it because I'm having no fun at all... I am really sick of hitting reload.

No, it's not necessary to open that section of the Ossuary to get through it, hanako.
