Re: Minions of Mirth
I've been having a lot of the same issues, Dragonlady. I think it's a little easier if you start off with a party (I created two rangers and a warrior, and that made the battles a bit more winnable, though I still had characters--and sometimes my whole party--die). There are a bunch of things that you pick up that you can't sell, even the "special" monsters continuously repopulate, so you can end up with multiple copies of the same "unique" item.
I'm not sucking up here to say that I much prefer Eschalon. It's enough of a balance of hardcore gaming and casual gaming that I can play it a few hours a week and enjoy it without feeling too frustrated (and the folks here help what frustrations I do have).

Ahh, okay. I guess I'll work on some other types besides the warrior or go back to my Druid and work on getting her up and then join her with the warrior.
Some of the skills have me puzzled. I just got Savvy skill for my warrior but the encyclopedia doesn't have it listed, either in my game or on the website forums. Some of the skills you have to pop into your 'Macros' and click on them to use them and increase skill. I 'd like to know if I have to do that with savvy too, or does it increase or whatever automaticlly. I believe it gives a 10% increase in expts for each battle. And I've discovered I'm not high enough in repair skill to repair a 2H sword I got from one of the quests. Grumble.

I've tried three times to get started, but something always comes up before I can get into it. I am going to devote some time to it this weekend- I promise!

Well, if it's a choice between playing Minions of Mirth and getting closer to an announcement about Eschalon Book II, I think you know where most of the people on this forum fall.BasiliskWrangler wrote:I've tried three times to get started, but something always comes up before I can get into it. Dragonlady, if you have enough money, you can also start your warrior on a second specialization. In the stats window, you can adjust how much experience goes to each. When you have more than one character in your group, each one shares in the experience from quests and battles.

Re: Minions of Mirth
If I remember correctly, my warrior has 33 gold and some change.
I'm kinda torn on what to do with him. I had just gotten the shield from the tower taken over by the undead and was about to tell the Capt. about it when the game froze and then dropped out off my screen. When I started it back up again I was back at the last time I 'camped' and several items gone, including the shield. I've tried to get on the 'quest' again but it says I've done it enough times. So I'm out a shield. Sigh. 2 hours of battles down the drain. I thought the computer was supposed to save every minute automatically but apparently it didn't. Grumble, grumble.
Is there anyway to put the game on pause? offline?

I think you can go back to the tower and get the shield again, even without getting the quest again. Just like you can kill the skeletal captains over and over and get their orders multiple times.Dragonlady wrote:If I remember correctly, my warrior has 33 gold and some change.I'm kinda torn on what to do with him. I haven't found a way to pause the game, either. And it's really annoying when you're in a situation like you've fought two-thirds of the way through the sewers. If you camp there, you come back to the game in the middle of a fight most of the time, as all of the creatures will have come back. If you leave to camp above ground, you have to fight your way back through again.

I tried that last night and took it to Cedric. Got the same message of 'you've done that max amount time ' message and he didn't fix the shield. I could repair some but it still read 'broken' and no magic in it at all. Big Bummer. I got the 2 orders and am off to find Lundren the Wise. I still can't get close to 'Stinker'. Why can't he come up to shore like the other rats?!

You can always dive into the water and try to attract Stinker's attention to come to you.
If you keep repairing, eventually you get better at it and can fix the fancier equipment.

Humm...I'll try to fix that shield but how do I get the magic stuff in it?
I tried the sewers tonight and didn't get two far by myself. Came back up for R&R and sell items. Yes, I know the sewers will respawn. thanks for the help.
I got a pair of "worn leather Boots of Presage" in the sewers but my 'Encyclopedia' doesn't have it listed. Worn leather boots yes, of Presage no. I've been trying to get to the MoM forums but it seems they are down.

Re: Minions of Mirth
mom has a steep learning curve I almost gave up at lvl 10 but glad now i never did - lots of things are hidden and are not explained - like looting a body - you don't need to be standing next to it to loot it - if you can see it and click on it you can loot it - so if stinker sank to bottom of moat just swim out look down and double click on his body if can see it.
swim using the mouse look up/down to go up/down while moving forward and yes you can drown.
As far as I know there is no pause in single player - best thing to do is move to where something does not respawn.
To see a level of a monster hold Shift and click on creature and window comes up telling you about them
quest items like bear skins I think can only be used once after that it's a wasted drop or trash
I think there is 3 skill types - passive (you can't control anyway) A special one you get while leveling and you can add to macro bar and melee and magic scrolls/tomes - when you get scroll from your class guild just CTRL and double click to add then you upgrade using Tomes of that type of melee/magic to max of level 10
As far as alot of armor types go - if it's not in the Encyclopedia it's not part of a set and just junk

Dragonlady,
For the special enchanted items, the power of the enchantments returns as it is repaired. Just keep repairing stuff, and you'll get good enough to fix that shield (and even better stuff that comes later).

well, I've just downloaded MoM to my Vista box - we'll see how it goes. I played it a few years back, and enjoyed it. If I like it once I'm back in again, I'll pony up the cash for Premium.

Re: Minions of Mirth
Thanks Marshall, I'll try some of the things you mentioned.
I hate the middle mouse control for moving 'look' around on the screen. It makes me dizzy.
I'll try that the next time I go into water. Oh, and thanks about the bear skins. I was going nuts trying to find someone to buy them from me. Delete city it is!
The Boots of Presage can be sold, I was just trying to figure out what the Presage part ment. It, when I looked in inventory description, boosted mind & something else..didn't write that part down. I've found other things that had a +1 boost to poison save, electricity, etc. Shrugs. No biggie. I'm now training up a ranger to go along with the warrior. What kind of 'magic' user type should I enclude too? Or should I atalll?

Re: Minions of Mirth
The trouble I think with single player is I think it gives you a false sense of security in the way you can have multi chars in your party as online you are restricted to one char 3 classes but game play and loot drops are way different - if anyone does go prem pm me here i'll fix you up with cash and goods to help you

well, I broke down and went premium
for the price, providing both SP and MP, it's too fun a game to pass up.
