It is possible to deal multiple killing blows to an individual monster and gain XP each time. I checked the FAQ and searched the forums, but I didn't see this addressed (nor did I see the proper process for bugreporting... if I missed it, my apologies; I was up late at a bachelor party last night.)
To reproduce:
Stand a reasonable distance away from a monster (10, 12 tiles).
Attack the monster at range (e.g. Fire Dart).
When the final attack kills the monster, quickly rightclick on the tile again before the turn ends. Another attack will take place, and you will see another death message for that monster and the extra XP will be awarded.

Re: Double kill bug
Hmm, this was a bug reported early on and I thought it had been fixed. Are you running version 1.04 of the game?
Re: Double kill bug
Yes, v1.04, in the full version of the game.
Re: Double kill bug
Additionally, I've noticed something else which I expect is related to this. If I am pursuing an enemy that is fleeing at the same speed I am and we are one step away (e.g. I move adjacent to him, he moves away before my next turn, I move adjacent, et cetera) if I click fast enough I can close the gap and squeeze in an attack before he can flee. Effectively it's the same root problem as noted above: I can get two actions done in quick succession.
The second action isn't free, though; if I fail to kill the enemy with that last blow, he'll get two moves away before I can resume the pursuit.

Re: Double kill bug
You can use this trick with torches to attack in light, while your enemy attack in darkness. Basically free hits if you have hide in shadows.
Re: Double kill bug
You can be any distance Ino.
This "Trick" Is amazinly usefull on town guards (omg 500 Exp!) Mino's, Giants (700 i think?)
