Goblin Citadel Gates (possible spoiler)

I'm at the front gate and when I step near the gates, they close saying that the goblins are aware that their citadel is under attack etc... I did two things :

1) Went ahead anyway and killed everything (Spiders and Goblins) outside the gates and still couldn't find a way in.

2) reloaded the game before the gates closed, tried using a projectile to jam the levers but they are "obscured" even though the gates are open (could be the angle...) and so still can't find a way in...

could someone point out as to what I'm doing wrong? I've also tried looking for some other entrance but couldn't find any...

There is a lever near the spider room. It opens the left back entrance.

I did find a lever in the left room where two spiders and some goblins (including one or two warlords) come at you. (There's another room top left of that where there is a contaminated water well and a trapped and locked chest- just to make sure it's the same place we're talking about) The lever is between a barrel and a chair if i'm not mistaken, but all I see happening is open/close the two cubicle rooms where the spiders were...

i just realized the remaining powder kegs in the other room had to be blown...
