Help with Father Michael's Portal--possible spoilers

I don't have the note anymore, but I was sure the ingredients to go into the alembic were ectoplasm and mercury. But it doesn't seem to be working. Am I remembering incorrectly or is my portal broken? It's not a game-breaker, obviously, but since my character is unable to cast a portal spell at the moment, it would have been convenient. Any help would be appreciated.

To my knowledge those are correct.

Are the other two ingredients in the alembic? I believe they are ambergris and bromine. They should have been there initially but if you were like me you might have taken them out initially not thinking of making the portal work.

Otherwise make sure the four ingredients are the ONLY things in the alembic, I'm not sure if that's necessary but it seems like it would be.

Oh, yes, I did take them out, along with the fish and the skull. I'll try that, thanks.
