Legends of the Lost Realm

Post by realmzmaster »

Does anyone remember Legends of the Lost Realm for the Macintosh. This crpg was published by Avalon Hill. One of the few games they had for the Mac, (well they did not have that many games for the PC, being mainly a boardgame publisher). The game also had an expansion called the Wilderlands. The game came out in 1988. MacWorld at the time declared it the best crpg for the Mac. It is a party based game in B/W with an interesting combat method. Does anyone know anymore about it. Also another mac game called Realmz. I believe it was issued by Fantasoft.

There is a project to rewrite Realmz for modern OSs. But there is a degree of internal bickering and the original author still owns the code but has agree'd to allow a rewrite. I loved Realmz and Exile, and now Avernum. I was so sad to see Realmz fall to the depths of the internet.

i remember LOTLR fondly but i never finished it.
i have system 9 on my laptop (it runs in hypercard)
does anyone know of an OSX program that can convert hypercard files?? I still have both LEGENDS and WILDERLANDS and would like to start over to see if i can finally win this game.

I have a nifty mapping utility that shows all maps, and hidden doors etc. it might be easier to win now.

LOVED that game but it was very, very repetitive and took SO DAMN long!
Also, played it for about a year and my characters still were easily killed by some things in WILDERLANDS.

i had about 4 Realmz scenarios, and liked them a lot too, but once you realized the patterns of each enemy, it was easy to win. (just run until you had a single doorway between you and your enemy. You could hit all of them each turn and they could only hit a single one of your party)
