Poison...Oh how I hate thee!

Post by Roland »

;)

Well after a long hiatus I'm back to Eschalon, rolled a new toon (Fighter, Str/Dex/Con w/low magic)...only lvl 3 atm and trying to make my way to get the key from the Caretaker by clearing out the basement area of the mortuary.

I can handle the normal salamander's unless I get cornered by 2 or 3...but the Yellow ones (can't remember the exact name, but larger and yellow with poison) kick my butt completely.

I exited the crypt and and into 3-4, tried to fight by getting into a position where i could take on 1 at a time, but even that didn't work as I get poisoned and can't run as I'm blocked.

Tried running past and ran into 3 more by the river :(

At lvl 3 should I be exploring a different location and trying to lvl up a bit more before taking on this quest?

And suggestions on dealing with poison at this stage and early lvl of the game?

Thx for any tips or ideas you can give me...I like the game but this is almost frustrating enough to take an extended break on again. But I'd really like to continue and see more of the world and story.

Thanks again!

Buy detox potions. Wait until the end of the fight to take one, or you'll just get poisoned again. If you have a reasonable endurance, you should be able to stand the slight damage that comes from being poisoned for a few turns. Obviously, keep a few healing potions on hand.
If you haven't done the bar of mithril quest yet, that's a good way to get XP and some gold to start with.

And with the noximanders on the bar of mithril quest, don't forget the portcullis is a great weapon.

A portcullis is a big metal gate you can open and close. Judicious use of them on enemies that are tough for your current level is a good thing. :)

Also, it doesn't hurt when you get the chance to learn a ranged skill. They can't poison you if they can't get to you.

notice that around level 3, your default mob is probably noximanders (ie, the mob that jumps you when you sleep, and occasionally generates randomly). Sleeping only for a few hours at a time can help keep them from being generated. (sleep, wake yourself before you're finished healing, sleep again. The longer you sleep, the more likely they are to show up.)

They are called "Detox Serum" potions. The Innkeeper as well as the Item Shop owner in Aridell sell them. Later on, you can make the Serum from Belladonna and Serpent Venom.

Rha is that really lower monster generation? Just interrupt rest often? I'll try that.

For Detox potion well their name is Oetox potions with the font used.

Watch the sun/moon indicator at the top of the screen, ending your rest when the moon passes two marks on the dial. In game time that is about two and a half or three hours. When you level up a bit, camp out near Blackwater and sleep until the goblins wake you, then slaughter them for XP and lots of loot
