This guy is healthier than thou (potential SPOILER)

Post by Nysyarc »

After creating a virtually indestructible character and slaughtering every enemy in existence, I was slain by a mere portcullis. In my rage, I developed a new character with which to even the score, and now nothing can stand in my way! ... Or impale me from above!

Edit: This may be considered a spoiler in some ways, even though it doesn't give away the main quest line.

Very nice. Um. It's a lot easier to just not get hit with the portcullis. You're on the right track with your dart, there.

Nysyarc, question about this:

Once you've smashed down the portcullis on yourself and survived, can your character move in either direction? Or are you trapped and immobilized by it?!

(This is yet another reason why I could never be a beta tester! Getting a character up to 300+ HPs, just so you test to see if smashing a portcullis down on your head immobilizes your character or not!! )

Ought to be stuck there, of course, leaking bodily fluids until you expire. Even a portal spell would be difficult to cast, in the circumstances! It depends on whether the folks at Basilisk anticipated this possibility or not. I'd like to see something like "You have miraculously survived being crushed by a portcullis! Unfortunately, you are now trapped underneath a portcullis and completely immobilized. As your blood flows out onto the stones, you feel consciousness slipping away...your last thought before the darkness envelops you is "Why did I stupidly crush myself under a portcullis?"

Good idea, Turtle. Unfortunately, I think we assumed no one would survive a portcullis drop and so you can probably just walk away from it. Never actually tested this though...

Survivable

Yes, he can move afterwards, and yes I bought one dart for the sole purpose of triggering the portcullis from afar. There are a few reasons why I decided to do this, in order of priority (SPOILER):

1. I was curious
2. It had never been done before (hence the curiosity)
3. (SPOILER ALERT) In the Goblin Fortress it took me awhile to figure out this one part with portcullises that closed on you when you stepped under them, and I realized it would be possible to cheat the system if you could survive them.

So yah, I wouldn't recommend doing this, I mean it's not THAT rewarding, it's just funny to see a gate crash down on your character and the 'so and so suffers 350 points of damage' message that appears.

Well I have to admire your spirit of discovery! Of course you'll need a whole whack of healing between the two portcullises (portculli?).

My question is after the portcullis closes on you and you move past it, is it shut, permanently forced open, or just open and functioning normally?

It's shut and can still be opened and closed normally, in fact I reloaded the file and got 2 darts instead, I closed the gate on myself from afar and then without moving, opened it again.

So it is closed with you "under" it? Can you still move then?
