Interesting "Bug"

Post by CrazyBernie »

As I am working on the third episode in the much acclaimed Lewis the Fighter series, I have come across a most interesting bug. I have a savegame in the first slot aptly named "New Fighter." It is saved at the very beginning, before I've even stepped out of the starting building. I loaded it up, grabbed the items in the chest, stump, and barrel, and made my way to the inn. Once upstairs, I came across a most interesting thing: The locked doors were open, as well as the dresser, and the chest that should have contained a special prize! It appeared as though someone had been there before me and stolen the booty! Now then, where this fighter had no lockpicking skills, I initially skipped over this section of the inn, and had a few other saves with this character having already made it to Aridell. So I loaded each of them up and trekked back to Elderhollow, and found that they all had the same issue. I'm thinking that this is somehow related to the duplication bug that some have posted about... but it is certainly an interesting turn of events...

Have you tampered with your saved game files at all (copied or moved them around)? Have you at any time messed with any files in the data directory or saved slots? I don't see how this is possible without some manual trickery with the files.

If in fact you have discovered this bug without any file manipulation at all, then I need to know exactly how to replicate it here to ensure it does not carry on into Book II.

I have copied the game back and forth between my laptop and desktop a couple of times... and my desktop doesn't have the "bug." I only have two Lewis saves on my desktop and neither of them is bugged, and I have three Lewis saves on the laptop and all three are bugged. So there was probably some corruption or missed files while slinging them back and forth.

I don't suppose the machines are different operating systems, are they? Could be a DOS/Unix line-ending issue or something?

One's XP, one's Vista. The laptop's old, so hiccups are expected, I suppose.
