Elemental enhancements

Post by TheBrit »

Is there any particular reason why there are no items to increase elemental magic apart from training or the book (unlike divination) or why it is sooooooo hard to find an elemental ring even from a vendor?

I'm on my 6th play and NEVER seen an elemental ring (+3) although I know they exist because my wife found numerous in her last game and we played the same caste etc at the time.

I can't remember if there's a +2 or +3 Elemental ring, but there are Wizard's Hats that do boost Elemental - or, at least, the Grand Master Wizard's Hat (Elemental +3) does. But the Wizard's Hats are found in the weapon's shops, not in the Alchemy/Spells/Items shops.

Oddly enough, I've never found one of these in my Magic User game, just in my Rogue game!

Anyway, it takes time playing to find some of these items - I only recently discovered that there was such a thing as a Gravedigger's Flame amulet! Who knew!!

95% of all items in Book I are randomly distributed, so there is always that chance you may not find a particular item on any given play-through.

Book II features considerably more items, so it may taken several play-throughs if you are really serious about finding every item and item variation.

Is Book II also going to be items at random to a 95% level? (Seems like a lot of random! )

Will all the items eventually show up in the various stores in book II? I mean, if you want to wait a game week the stores change inventory and if your patient the item you want will show up, at least they do in Book I. Perhaps there should be some items that never show up in stores unless you sell them?

Well, there are always unique items that will never show in stores and never appear as random loot. These items are hand placed, just like in Book I (such as exotic weapons or specialty items such as Easter Eggs). But most items have the chance to eventually show up as random loot.

Pretty much. We have of course worked to keep item generation scaled appropriate to zone difficulty (not player level) so if you run through a hard map, the kind of loot you find there will be appropriately leveled. That's not to say you wont find a few bent daggers in the "Crypt of the Vampire Lord", but you should also find some equipment worthy of your efforts.

So BW,

We can expect to see vampires in Book II? Will it be the traditional Transylvanian vampire or one based on a different culture such as Asian? Because if it is the traditional vampire it can be killed with a stake or beheading. Not so with vampires based on a different culture. Will the character have to figure out what type of vampire it is from provided clues? Will we be seeing wolfmen and other ghoulish types?

Sorry CrazyBernie,

But I only mentioned it because BW talk about Crypt of the Vampire Lord! I will humbly move the questions to the Book II discussion! I will now shuffle off and hide my face in shame!

well thanks all for the answers.

Fortunately this time round as a magik user I've not hit the problem of elemental level as I've pumped skill points into elemental after I trained to the max - I was just curious.

All I remember from my play-throughs though is that elemental enhancement items are very scarce compared to say divination.
