Re: Iphone
We have actually looked into it. If we did, it probably wouldn't be any of the "Books" of this trilogy, but rather a stand-alone adventure where we concentrate on one area of the world with a couple dozen quests...something like "Eschalon: Ash Isle".

I don't think it's anything personal.wavecutter wrote:Tough crowd.

I think it's just that, given the choice between seeing Book II come out sooner vs. seeing Basilisk put time into getting Book I to work on an iPhone, I think most of us would rather see Book II come out sooner.
But BW's post on this is intriguing!

Re: Iphone
Well... I don't have an iPhone so... That's probably why I didn't reply. It really actually wouldn't affect me and somehow I don't see this working out so much as a "hand held" game but who am I to say anything about it? I don't know...

Actually, I thought I'd replied to this already, but apparently not.wavecutter wrote:I think it would be awesome to be able to play this on my iphone. Is anyone with me?
I'd love to see a decent RPG on the iPhone - none of the few so far seem much cop, frankly. I can imagine it's a tough job designing a decent UI for it, though. To fit much on the screen in an isometric layout, I would have thought the icons would need to be really small. I guess there could be some mileage in a flat 2D layout and simplified icons, but personally I'd be wondering about an Eye Of The Beholder style first-person view.
I've seen at least one other game that used this approach, but it looked like it waste a bunch of space with movement arrows on the bottom of the screen, which seemed rather needless to me - to be fair it was a port from another platform, so there may have been legacy baggage. However, on a touch-screen device I'd like to see a game where most of the playing area is dedicated to the world view, and either gestures or radial menus on the screen to interact.
Alternatively, if the graphics could be made smoothly scalable, pinch gestures could allow even an isometric layout to work quite well - I'm not sure whether the graphics hardware in the iPhone would cope with that sort of thing, but it seems to do a pretty impressive job with some of the applications.
Oh blast, this post has made me miss my iPhone all over again. I dropped it a week or so ago, and put a nice little spiders web of cracks all across the front. Still worked fine (even the touch screen), but wasn't very visible. My insurance company has agreed to pay the claim, but they're dragging their heels about paying up (as usual). I think I might get a hard shell case instead of just a screen protector in future...

Re: Iphone
You could use the accelerometer for movement control and have a hiding dock with 3 or 4 large icons that appears when you touch that region of the screen. Then those 3 or 4 icons have sub menus etc.
BTW, thanks for the replies.

Re: Iphone
Hi,
Maybe any of the forum readers are interested in, so I have to tell here, that we are currently working on an EOB style RPG for the iPhone, called Wrath of the Dragon Lord.
We are big (hungarian) fans of these (EOB) type of role playing games, so the decision was quite easy, because one of us is expert in objective c programming, and I'm a graphic designer for the living.
Our work is in progress for at least 3 months. Currently we are ready with the storyboard, rendering and fingertip-style navigation engine, but artwork, level design and sound design is still in progress.
We plan to release it around june-july.
I have some screenshots of the game, check them out. Not final ones, only for our internal testing sessions - maybe I could call them "sneak peaks"

I will tell you if anything happens with the dragon lord game.
Bye all.
Peter
