What is the benefits between the 2 besides weight and noise level. I am playing a ranger and selceted light armor skills, but i seem to have a hard time finding good light armor for one and was wondering if i would have been better to invest in heavy armor for more protection.
Thanks

Re: Light Armor vs Heavy Armor
Heavy Armor is just suited better for fighters...it weighs more, it protects better. You'll need a lot of Strength to carry a full suit of Heavy Armor and still be able to carry other things.
When it comes to Light Armor, it's always good to have high Dexterity so that your natural Armor Rating helps protect you. There are some good Light Armor pieces out there in the world, but none will ever compare to Heavy Armor for general protection.
Many people will put a few points into both to be able to wear each kind of armor without penalty, but truly devoting a lot of points to one either one can also boost your Damage Reduction score when wearing that type of armor.

I have a ranger and he wears nothing but heavy armour
Although it is a bit inconvenient, seeing as he's almost ALWAYS incumbered.

And yet I've played the game through six times, almost always with some version of a ranger/rogue, and never yet worn heavy armor.

I've played more than six times with different 'classes' and still haven't worn any heavy armor. It seemed to me there were more 'magic' light armor than heavy.

I've played all 5 classes too, and what I've done (usually) is:Dragonlady wrote:I've played more than six times with different 'classes' and still haven't worn any heavy armor. Fighter - Heavy Armor (after starting out with Light)
Ranger - Heavy Armor (after starting out with Light, though playing longer with Light)
Rogue - Light Armor
Mage - Light Armor
Healer - Light Armor (though, the way Eschalon forces you to play Healer, Heavy might work for them too)
Anyway, because both Ranger & Rogues are pretty much forced to beef up their Dexterities, both would be suitable for Heavy Armor, provided their Strength is high enough, IMO. But Fighters are perfect for Heavy Armor - I wouldn't play them at higher levels with anything else.
