Multiple platform purchase question

I am going to soon purchase a Macbook. But my main computer is Windows XP. If I want to run this game on both platforms, would I need to make two purchases? Also, would I be able to move saved games between platforms?

I haven't yet the same need but have chance to have it too. I bought the Mac version recently but later I could need the PC too and have to buy it again is a bit rough. And as it seems save files are compatible this can be very handy to have both game versions.
