Do torches count for weight?
Do torches count for weight?
So i bought/collected about 50 torches, which are in the designated torch slot in the upper right of the UI panel. I know they are .2 in the inventory. I can't access them (sell or drop), aside from lighting them up for use...are they counting against my overall weight? If so, it sucks because you can't get rid of them it seems (besides letting 1 run out at a time)?

You're not the first person to note how annoying it is that you can't dump torches. You can put them in empty sconces on walls (they never burn out there, but at least they're not in your inventory).
In the game, you only have an absolute need for six torches, if you plan to complete all of the side quests.
If you get overloaded, just keep a torch lit even when you're walking around in the daylight and you'll start to cut down on them. Also, put them in empty wall sconces and such. There's really no need to buy torches, since the ones in towns regenerate every dusk, and nobody minds if you acquire them.

Thanks, I grabbed a lot cause I don't have magic yet, and they keep running out on me rather quickly in dungeons.
I am really starting to appreciate games with a little *less* general upkeep, heh.
I did see a lantern for sale, with 500 rounds of use...I can't find any info on lanterns in a search here. Should I just get a lantern?

Lanterns give a lot more light, have a known life cycle, and can be reloaded with wicks and oil. Those are the advantages. Disadvantage, of course, is that giving a lot more light attracts things to you a lot more, and it has to be equipped/unequipped more actively, eliminating the torch exploit that you may have read about elsewhere on the site. I do find a lantern to be the best light source when searching the Whistling Caverns after killing everything, though.lokiju wrote:Thanks, I grabbed a lot cause I don't have magic yet, and they keep running out on me rather quickly in dungeons.![]()

And, my first time through the game, I think I had 74 torches. I just kept grabbing them.

The Torch exploit.lokiju wrote:Torch exploit?
It is exceedingly cheap and (correct me if I'm wrong) will not be usable in Book II due to game engine modifications.SPOILER wrote:At night or in a darkened area you have your torch out and attack an enemy then quickly before he attacks you you press the "T" key and you put your torch away thus he either attacks you in darkness (at a much lower ToHit ratio) or he goes on to search for you elsewhere as you're suddenly hidden in shadow (if you have this skill and are in sufficient darkness for your level of the skill).

Thanks for explaining. That *is* quite a bit below my integrity comfort zone, though I am an avid savegame reloader.

Me too,
, the torch exploit is kinda game breaking, also I think in Book II we'll be able to drop torches. But it's too late/early in the day for me to want to look for that info to confirm.

BW confirmed somewhere that torches would be droppable into containers.
