I'm pretty sure they're miscellaneous items without a use. Junk essentially. Every RPG needs some junk! Well not really... but it adds to the atmosphere?

I don't know I just thought it was cool when I came across a fine porcelain cup.

Sell the salt and drop the weapon fragments they're useless. For Book I at least.

Yep - there's definitely "useless" 'stuff' you can find in Book I.

Not just the salt/spices, but also some of the (story) Books (though those definitely add to the "atmosphere"), and the bars of copper and iron, etc.

I'm interested to see if items like weapons fragments and the copper/iron bars will find actual uses in Book II, in conjunction with the new Repair skill. And maybe we'll be able to use salt or spices to stave off Hunger?

Guess we'll see...

I'd like to see salt and spices be used to make lizard gizzards, orc livers more palitable (sp?), ie. taste good enough to eat without throwing up.

Going back to the rogue like games, in Hack when I didn't have food I would feed the dog the dead monster bodies. He didn't mind. :)

That's another thing... in Book 2, will we be able to eat what we kill?

I imagine the answer is No, in which case I'll be the first to suggest that the answer should be Yes.
Certainty: a character-driven, literary, turn-based mini-CRPG in which Vasek, legendary "Wandering Philosopher", seeks certainties in a cryptically insular, organic, critically layered city.

Animals often drop edible parts. For example, killing a Catacomb Rat drops "Rat Meat" 80% of the time. Other creatures may or may not drop edible items.

Does anything ever drop anything with, say, alcohol in it?

In the East Salted Coast there are 3 barrels with alcoholic products. I never got around to trying them.

About the weapon fragments... when I tried selling them, the various merchants told me that they "looked important, and that I should hold onto them"

Yes they are VERY important. They add weight to your inventory so you can not carry more things that are actually worth something. Just my attempt at a little humor folks.

No, no, this is realism. See? How many times have you heard this sort of thing in real life?

"Gee... you know, I don't have any use for that bagel, personally, but... well... it looks important. I'd hold onto it if I were you."

"Shattered shingle? Looks important. I'd hold onto that if I were you."
And . . . surprise, surprise: they're never proven correct.

But you never know when you might find yourself in a MacGyver situation... :D
