Thank you for the great game!

Post by WorldFamous »

I stumbled upon this game on steam and absolutely loved it. I have a soft spot for the isometric view, due in no small part to my time with the Ultima series, but I wasn't expecting the depth and harshness I found in the game. It showed me how much I missed having to think about every encounter, having to use all of my character's resources and running, when necessary. The short little descriptions that pop up from time to time were really immersive, and the fact that you're always given only just enough information to be able to figure out the next step is fantastic. I have only just managed to finish the game for the first time (with the destroyer title no less) and was inspired to do a little comic on it, as a small thanks for the great experience. I'm no artist but, hey, it's the intention that counts

Lol, if I didn't already know you were a masochist, I'd say you didn't like the game from that comic...

Well I may have been a little bitter about a certain cave with certain bees on it. :) Seriously, though, it's supposed to be this way, where's the challenge or the feeling of accomplishment from a game where you can take on any creature from the word go? Plus coming back to areas that gave me trouble at the beginning was ever so satisfying.

Very amusing. Don't worry about the art work. Look where it got the artist who does "Order of the Stick" comics!

I was playing some more of it today and I felt like making another comic. Since no one has complained, yet, I thought I could get away with some more. Until someone tells me to stop. With a knife.

A warning message should be attached to your comics.
"Warning!: This comic strip is liable to cause spewing of liquid contents all over your keyboard. Cover keyboard before reading!!!"

Hahahaha, beautiful stuff, hysterical.

I try to play as straight as possible but I find myself reloading occasionally. Lockpicks are just so expensive and my base level lockpicking skill I picked up from a book and +3 lockpicking burglar's gloves just don't cut it sometimes.

Keep those comics coming though.

I'm on my second run through, and I try not to re-roll this time around -- and I never do for barrels or chests (or coffins, ahem)... but when I go through 5 lockpicks trying to unlock a door at 25%, well... I feel like it's time to re-load the game. (Although this time through I usually just let my picks break when they break; why else buy them in the first place?) Also when I get diseased I always reload, because those potions are rare and expensive (and I'm playing a straight fighter, no magic). ...But for the time being I don't re-load for poison.

Is this breaking the code of trying to challenge yourself?

Yes, I think I'll start buying more lockpicks. As for getting diseased... I'll still re-load for that; not much choice.
Certainty: a character-driven, literary, turn-based mini-CRPG in which Vasek, legendary "Wandering Philosopher", seeks certainties in a cryptically insular, organic, critically layered city.

I felt that disease was a large obstacle as well until I got level 10 alchemy, now I can make cure greater disease potions for the cost of a belladonna and chunk of charcoal. (With Mercantile level 2 that's about 120 gold, as opposed to around 700 gold from a merchant) And if I don't happen to need them? Well, I still make them and sell them for a profit. But alchemy would be considered magic technically, so I reckon that isn't an option for you. My character is also primarily a fighter, but I'm playing him based off of his "class" which is a Mercenary (atheistic fighter), so I kind of let him do whatever he is capable of to survive (some alchemy, a little divination, limited bow skills, and a great sword arm).

These are awesome please continue.

On the subject of lockpicking I usually allow myself to break lockpicks unless I end up down to my last one, then I reload. Of course... I reload to before I started to pick the lock... not before I broke my last lockpick.

I got really lucky with lockpicks, actually, both with unlocking and finding them on chests. So I never had to reload because of a door. I did reload a couple of times when my sword of ultimate pain and doom broke while smashing something. As for dieseases, I usually consider the chances, if I'm close to the exit I'll simply go to a town, rest and then pay the priest to heal it. It's usually cheap enough. If I'm in the middle of a dungeon with giant evil monsters salivating at the opportunity to eat my entrails, it means it's reload time. Both of my characters have no alchemy though, and I'm starting to realize now, that I chose to go for a ranger, that I'll desperately need it.

Every class can use alchemy, it's just such a huge money saver and the enhancement potions (I find haste especially useful) are a must have.

Thanks for all the kind words about the comic. I'm having great fun making these and, aside from playing Book I, there's nothing better to be doing on a saturday afternoon
