how to open gate by light house (minor spoiler request ) ?

I'm in that underground area that goes up to the lighthouse. On the lower right side (near the exit to the boat) there is a room with a single lever and 3 gates. I've killed the 3 floating gizmos but i cannot figure out how to open the gate (i toggled the lever at the top of the room once but now i cannot toggle it again).

Is there any way to open any of these gates ?

(btw mage is so much easier than warrior so far - in 10 hours play time i'm about 80% done)

Maybe you should try looking for a different gate that used to be closed.

If it is not in that room then I'm not too sure (I've been to the top of the light house if it is related to that).

If is is in a different room but has nothing to do with going to the top of the lighthouse or out to the boat let me know and i'll look more

(I.e, I think I sort of explored this area in a order different than the designer expected so i might have gone through a gate that was suppose to be closed but already open because I've been here before there.

Still it looks very much like the top of those three gates I just mentioned should open and it doesn't.

Unrelated but along the same lines what does the switch in the ardell's weaponsmith do (i was able to have him walk out; smash the chest and toggle the switch but it is not clear to me what it opeend).

Last but least I cannot figure out what the 'widget' is good for. When you are in the mage tower; after you tell him your reason to be there he gives you the third key and everything in his chest. I've played through twice and both times there is a widget in the chest with some potions. Anyone need a widget ?

The lever where the eyes appear opens the gate that allows you to get to the top of the lighthouse. You just didn't realize it was closed before, I guess.

You remember the abandoned portal outside of Elderhollow? If you use the lever in the blacksmith, it activates the portal. You then need to use the widget on the pentagram which will transport you to a secret location.

-Now now now, be nice! (I was taken to a sneak-preview in book II though.)

Not to be ultra dense but how do you "use the widget on the pentagon". I cannot wield it (to throw it) if I right click on it it sez i cannot use it; if I 'drop ' it on the pentagon it sez it will be lost forever. the two urins next to the pentagon are unusable and remain unlight regardless of switch position ...
