Okay, I remember reading in an old post that someone had found 2 big rubies, 2 big emeralds and 1 big diamond in the cave. I have played Book 1 about a dozen times and have never found the aforementioned diamond. The rubies and emeralds are definitely there.

It sort of bothers me that there is something in Book 1 that has escaped me. So, I loaded up an old game and kicked up my "Spot HIdden" to level 12. Then I went back to the cave to search again. Nada - no big diamond despite scouring every rock and crevasse I could find.

Question - is there really a large diamond in the cave?

5 small emeralds, 6 small rubies, 2 diamond chips, 2 large emeralds, 2 large rubies by my count. According to the Fixed Item Compendium, I missed a diamond chip.

It's the combination of spot hidden and perception that determines your chance of spotting hidden places. I ran an elemental mage with 40 perception that had no trouble finding things and another time it was a fighter with a reasonable amount of spot hidden.
