Items and Levels

Post by myrddinbach »

Do you have to be a certain level for certain items to show up?

I just got to blackwater and saved just before talking to the magic guy and I keep reloading trying to get him to produce a Lore ring. I've reloaded probably over a hundred times now and still no ring. I'm currently level 7.

I think reloading won't work. You'll have to sleep a couple days and come back later.

Then perhaps it's related to your experience. Try to camp around a bit and kill everything that disturbs you.
Also, have you tried visiting other magic shops?

Which really is my original question - trying to find out if anyone knows for CERTAIN if it won't load for me because of my level. Do I need to be a certain level for this item to load in the shopkeepers inventory or not?

Looking for a definitive answer...

I'll shop around with two very big experience levels and tell you the results.

This reply is not scientifically proven, but it has been my experience that the availability of rare items is a combination of both experience level and specific vendors plus some luck.

To explain: the most valuable items definitely show up later in the game and are mainly found in Blackwater (with a few in Bordertown). Now, the question is "Is that when they show up because you don't arrive in Blackwater until later in the game or because you have more XP points when you do arrive?" My best guess is that the XP points allow certain items to enter the inventory pool - but they are only a small part of the items that are available, so luck also enters into the equation.

I have seen multiple Lore Rings show up all of a sudden. I have also seen them remain virtually unavailable for most of the game. I am currently looking for a "Leather Halberk of the Prowler" and am getting somewhat irritated that nobody seems to have it in inventory - ever.

Your best hope is to check all possible shops every 7 days - which is when the inventory cycle resets.

Well, shopping in Aridell @ Level 15 yeilds things like "Iron Gauntlets of the Warlord," and "Adamantine Greatshield." Both are items that, at level 1 or 2, I would never come across, no matter how many times I rerolled the smith's inventory. So believe I can safely say "yes, your level effects what the shop owners have available." However, I couldn't tell you specifically that you won't ever find a Lore Ring at level 7. After rerolling Abygale several times (about 20ish), I did not see a Lore Ring, but I did come across a Ring of the Fire Master for the first time (and she had three of them at that!), as well as a Scholar's Ring.

I'm really good at rolling loot for the class that I'm not playing.

There is lots of randomness in what appears. I've seen items appear and be gone before I could raise the money. Level does help for the most powerful items.
